Storytime Crafts Make Reading FUN!

Story Time Crafts do make reading fun.  I have spent quite a few years doing Story Time for schools and libraries. In fact,  it is one of my favorite things to do. So, I’ve  decided to start blogging about it. Look below for some great ideas and free printables to make reading fun for preschoolers and young children.

In this, my first post, I am highlighting  three books by Mo Willem’s :
Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!
The Pigeon Finds a Hot Dog!
Don’t Let the Pigeon Stay Up Late!

Pigeon3

These books try to teach kids to choose the right, by showing them what NOT to do, and they can have a lot of fun interacting with the storyteller.

In order for Storytime to be fun for everyone, the stories need to flow smoothly and be easy to read aloud.  Mo Willem’s books fit that bill.

Also, there has to be a fun storytime craft at the end  to really make reading fun.  I have as much fun doing the as a I do reading the stories.

I always make an example craft ahead of time, to show but emphasize that they can do WHATEVER they want, they don’t need to create a copy of my craft. In fact many times, kids have come up with ingenious new ways to create my crafts that I love.

Here is the craft I created for the Pigeon Books. It can be used in many ways. Simply copy the image and paste it into a publishing program.  Then you can  print it out and use it any way you wish. Get creative.

When I have used this craft I have copied each picture onto its own page letting the kids have  fun coloring and adding to each one and then stapling them together to make their OWN Pigeon Book.
