Fun Craft for Kids – If You Give a Mouse a Cookie
Fun crafts are just a step way when you read If you Give a Mouse a Cookie, by Laura Numeroff, for Storytime.
Laura Numeroff has written a lot of clever books for kids and my favorite is If You Give a Mouse a Cookie. Felicia Bond illustrated it and all the others in the series, which include If you Give a Moose a Muffin, If you Give a Pig a Pancake, If you Take a Mouse to the Movies and If you take a Mouse to School.
All of these books are excellent for reading aloud in Storytime for many reasons. The kids LOVE them and they help the little ones to identify letter sounds and use picture clues to figure out what the story is about. Back in the day, when my 19 year old was 4, she memorized the whole book, and I thought she was READING it. Felicia Bond’s artwork is so clever and detailed one hardly needs the words to know what is happening in the story.
The “If You Can Give” books are circle stories, meaning the story goes full circle, starting back at the beginning once the end has been reached. It is a great way to teach kids how things can go “full circle”.
This fun craft for kids can be colored, cut out and taped to the toilet paper roll. (when I can’t get a hold of white TP rolls, I wrap some white paper around them so the kids can color it to match their mouse) I actually save TP rolls all the time, so I have them for different fun crafts.
Many of the little girls, I have worked with, like to make it a girl mouse – of course – so I have left it plain to allow them total control in creating just the they want to. Scotch Tape works the best, for this craft because clue takes too long to dry and glue sticks don’t always work so well when trying to get the pieces to stay up on the TP roll.
The craft I have made is a toilet paper roll craft. CLICK ON THE IMAGE BELOW TO PRINT.
