Easy Crafts for Kids with Hubert’s Hair-Raising Adventure – Bill Peet Part 3
In this post are easy crafts ideas for kids to do with another wonderful book by Bill Peet, Hubert’s Hair-Raising Adventure.
This is a fun story about Hubert, who is a very vain lion. He thinks his mane is the best around until disaster strikes! Then his friends come up with ideas to
help but only one actually does the work. In the end Hubert’s hair causes quite a problem til Baboon comes to help everyone out of their big fat mess.
Bill Peet uses this story to teach about vanity,
true friendship, and how to proudly be unique.
Hubert’s vanity causes him to despair when things go wrong and he tries to hide from everyone, but Bird spies him out and tells everyone all about it. Then as his jungle friends gather around to think about how to help him,(kids can learn about helping and not laughing at other people’s problems).
When a solution is reached however, no one actually wants to attempt the dangerous feat, except brave Elephant. This part can help children to learn what “fair wheather friends” can be like. The crocidile’s reaction shows the kids that some people can be mean, but their reaction doesn’t have to make ours worse.
Finally after Hubert’s hair is cured, Baboon has to come and save everyone with clear thinking, and handy scissors. He doesn’t get it exactly right though, but Lion finds out something about himself that we all need to learn.
The coloring page I made for Hubert can be used as easy crafts for kids, beyond just coloring. To make Hubert’s hair they can glue strands of yarn all over to make a hairy mess. They can also do fun things with that yarn, braid or cut it after they’ve glued it. We did something similar with a story called Silly Sally, who had some crazy hair, it was a lot of fun too.
