Now is the time for winter crafts. We are surrounded by snow and rather than moping about how cold it is I decided to share some of our winter crafts and suggestions for books to go with them.
Christmas Crafts are everywhere so my son Jimmy decided to create his own, based on Frosty the Snowman. Jimmy also picked a book to go with it.
Easy Crafts are easy to do with Where the Wild Things Are. Maurice Sendak won the coveted Caldecott Award for this book, which he definitely deserved for this book. It brilliantly combines the words and pictures perfectly.
My mantra for children has always been, “process is more important than product.” Meaning, it doesn’t matter what it looks like in the end, did you have fun making it? Drawing it? Or forming it? Those are the only questions that really matter. I have taught art in the schools for years and occasionally I get a teacher who is impossible to work with as they can’t separate “grades” from creativity. They want to grade the children’s art.
